In case you aren’t familiar with what makes the Northern Berg so awesome as a mountain biking venue, allow us to elaborate:
All Out Adventures is one of the biggest Adventure Parks in SA. Besides world class mountain biking, we offer 8 other extra ordinary activities. We are in close proximity to a number of accommodation venues, and lie at the center of the Drakensberg Trails Network. Besides being located in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, the venue has secure shaded parking, a coffee shop, showers and plenty for of activities to keep the non riders entertained. We also have a resident bike mechanic and a bunch of basic spares available.
The Drakensberg Trails network consists of 150km single track that link many of the resorts in the area. Trails are suitable for a range of riders. We also have access to lots of other wilderness routes.
Routes are tailored to match the abilities of the riders on each tour, from scenic meanders for weekend riders, to intensive high altitude training camps for those preparing for events. The abundance of groomed single track and the varied terrain make for exciting riding for all levels of rider. Groups can be split to accommodate different ability levels.
The skills clinic planned for the arrival day offers a breakthrough in bike handling with 7 terrain specific stations that utilize 3 basic balancing movements. Group ability splits, rider specific feedback and expert one on one coaching will leave riders equipped to take full advantage of awesome trails they will be riding for the rest of the weekend.
Cable Tour & King Swing
No visit to All Out Adventures is complete without throwing yourself off at least one of our Adventure Rides. The Cable Tour and the King Swing are the most popular!
The Cable Tour is a series of 6 zip lines that go from tree to tree, starting on the hillside above the Adventure Centre and finishing back at the Centre – spans are long and the gradient is steep so the speed is high – up to 60km / hour on some slides. The guide operated braking system makes this achievable by everyone. It’s almost as exciting as the Nook Road descent!
The King Swing is a free fall swing off a tree top platform that is accessed by a beautiful wooden spiral staircase that climbs 25m to the tree tops. The climb is almost as challenging as the swing!
Several accommodation venues in the area offer direct access to the trail network. 2 venues in particular stand out in terms of their accommodation, facilities, situation in relation to the trails, and their amazing hospitality. Both are owner run, and share our enthusiasm and commitment to awesome mountain biking in the Northern Berg:
Montusi Mountain Lodge
Montusi Lodge is a small and exclusive 4 star lodge offering accommodation in individual garden suites, each with spectacular views of the Amphitheatre and surrounding mountains. All the suites have a lounge with a fire place, TV, tea & coffee making facility and a mini bar fridge for drinks. Meals are taken in the lodge restaurant which is renowned for sumptuous local cuisine and innovative menus. A lovely pub and cosy lounge are also available in the main lodge. Montusi is brilliantly situated for mountain biking – It is in the very center of the whole trail network. Being situated in the valley rather than on the hillside means that all the trails are easily accessible without having start or finish with a big climb.
The Cavern Drakensberg Resort and Spa
The Cavern has been offering great hospitality and excellent family holidays since 1941. It is beautifully situated in a valley below the majestic sandstone cliffs of the northern Drakensberg. It is a 3 star resort catering mostly for families. It offers all the facilities that make for a memorable and active Drakensberg holiday.
Guests are accommodated in blocks of rooms that are set apart from the Main Building.
Meals are taken in the resort dining room and are included in the rate. The Cavern Dining Room offers a Table d’ hoté menu. This is a set menu which includes a wide variety of meal choices, and always includes a vegetarian dish.
The Cavern is also home to the luxurious Forest Retreat Spa where you can enjoy relaxation massages, manicures & pedicures.
The Cavern also offers direct access to the trails. Its situation on the hillside does mean there is a climb to either start or finish, but the breath taking scenery makes the effort most worthwhile!
